he nudged her, his fallen mate, and I could swear I saw the tear drop fall. huddled near the train tracks, the ducks honked their grave concern. but one, distraught, and limping, flung himself toward every passing car.

I watch them. so young, so fresh, so much energy, and I envy them their youth. yet I would not do it again. I wasted my beginning. I let it slip past me, too afraid to grab the dragon’s tail. but I have learned, the hard way, that you cannot escape its teeth. and so I go now, tired and spent, into the yawning, gaping, roaring, future. 8/31/13
